Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I am from San Diego and my fiancé and I were looking for a really good Mexican restaurant to eat at. My fiancé found this place and they have really good reviews on yelp and other websites, so we went to try this place. Well let you guys know we know what real Mexican food taste like. Let's start off with the food was mediocre at best. The meat tasted old and unseasoned, definitely not some good asada. My fiancé ordered the smothered burrito and the only thing that saved it was the green sauce. Their salsa was bland and the food was bland. I ordered the super burrito with steak, but I got absolutely no steak in my burrito there was mostly lettuce and rice in my burrito. If I wanted a rice burrito with lettuce I would have ordered that instead. My burrito was lacking in flavor as well the flavor it got was the lime juice I squeezed in my burrito. Maybe this passes as good mexican food but it's not. We will try some other things on the menu and see if anything they have is worth going back for. It wasn't all unpleasant the place was fairly clean and the lady behind the register was super nice. But most likely won't go back at all.

We just came back from a visit to this lovely place-wow! Wonderful people, great food and amazing service-5 stars! We are going back tomorrow for the homemade flan - YUM! -can't wait :-)
(5)Dee P.
Not 5 stars. We ate here during a roadtrip based on the yelp reviews. Our meals were barely mediocre. The food lacked flavor and was nothing special. The staff was friendly, but they could not follow directions. One person asked for no cheese and another to add avocado, neither was followed. The horchata was over sweetened. This place is decent, but not worth going out of the way for.
(2)Richard C.
This is a very good neighborhood mexican restaurant. The food was very good and properly prepared. Our order was ready shortly after we sat down at our table. We highly recommend trying.
(5)Dan G.
Came here per the many 5* reviews on yelp and we were not disappointed. Good prices for amazing authentic Mexican food.
(5)Dan U.
A no-frills restaurant but definitely worth a visit! You want great Mexican food not Taco Bell style come here. We had chips and salsa loved them. Tacos rancheros. Delicious! Combo enchilada, taco, rice and beans, great! We' ll be back, that's for sure! Great prices.
(4)Austin S.
2006 was the last time I ate at Morenitas.. I remember they had delicious burritos of mammoth proportions and free drinks for Idaho Falls High School students.. I wonder if they still do that? Anyways, if you haven't, try Morenitas
(4)Elizabeth T.
Happy we found the place on the way to Yellowstone from Salt Lake City. I don't like to eat at big chain companies. This is a two woman operation. The food is simple and fresh. Basic flavoring, but allow you to add your own level of hot spices with their homemade sauces. They do have a veggie burrito. Incredibly reasonably priced (unless all of Idaho is this cheap - really don't have much else to compare it to)
(4)Drew T.
It's just good food. Friendly staff and quick service. My wife had two tacos, and I had the chimichanga. Both were delicious. We also ordered 3 kids quesadillas, and 1 kids nachos all for right around $40. Not bad at all. I was impressed with the kids meals. When we order kids meals I usually expect some miniscule portion of low quality food. Not here. Each meal came with chips and a small drink, but the main course was substantial and tasty. None of my kids were able to finish. This is definitely a hidden gem in Idaho Falls.
(5)Robert H.
I got three tacos. A Chuche, Fish, and Ranchero. They were awesome! A very cool interior reminds of my favorite taco place back in Nashville. The owners were very friendly and helpful. I wish I had more time in town to try the entire menu. It is that good. They make their own corn tortillas and it shows. None of that processed factory mess here! This place has a five rating and deserves every bit of that five.
(5)John M.
Great food at a good price. The carne asada and carnitas enchiladas were awesome. I'm sad I've been here in Idaho falls so many times and never knew about this place. If you're a fan of authentic Mexican food, you will not regret coming here
(5)Charles D.
The staff here are amazing and friendly. I've had loads of tacos as well as a burrito and the ceviche tostada. All exceptional. I recommend the buche as well as the Lengua of course. Eat real Mexican food and you won't be disappointed.
(5)Christian S.
Too much rice used As filler. I bought a chimichanga that came with a side of rice and beans. Sounds good right? It wasn't. Two thirds of what was inside the chimichanga was rice! Why the heck would you do that especially when there was already rice on the side!? Beyond that, the little meat that was in there was dry and sinuous. I'm sure there are other things on the menu that are good but I was not pleased at all.
(2)A X.
I don't get all the good reviews. The food is bland, lots of cheese, and not like any "real mexican" food I have ever had. I'd rather go to Garcias Market and eat a real spicy pork burrito with out all the gringo stuff on it. I think the people that like this stuff like cheesy, mild, bland, unauthentic mexican type food.
(2)Bryan S.
These guys are fast, cheap, and the best Mexican food I've ever tasted. Everything I've tried here, I've loved. The tacos rancheros are really good with any meat; I prefer Lomo on mine. The spicy pork torta has really fresh bread. In fact, everything here is fresh. They also have about seven different salsas to try, and they're all very tasty. I like the spicy stuff here, but you really can't go wrong. The buneulos are an excellent dessert after a perfect meal.
(5)A S.
Quick, fresh, delicious Mexican. This place is clean and serves nice proportions for a very reasonable price. The super burrito was delicious with chicken.
(5)Janet B.
I saw the great reviews, so we stopped in on our way through IF, but I have to disagree with the other reviews, I wasn't impressed. The food was bland and the menu uninspired. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean.
(3)Chris E.
And in the middle of Idaho, too! I thought I was in California! You will not be sorry if you enjoy and appreciate authentic Mexican food. We have lived in California and Arizona and would like to think we know good Mexican food. This is as good as any we've had in either state! The inside is very basic and very typical of an authentic Mexican place...not as comfortable as a high end restaurant but the food!! We tried several different dishes....ALL were outstanding.
(5)Kassiah W.
The food is beautifully authentic. I was increadibly impressed by the habinero and verde sauces offered complimentarily with your order. I can now see why this place is as high-rated and so fondly talked about by the regulars.
(4)Geri E.
Best authentic taco spot in the area (that's not on wheels). The Taco Ranchero with lomo was the clear winner. But the Chuche Taco with carnitas was pretty great too.
(4)Frank T.
I usually will take anyone who's out of town to this small spot. Hidden on the backstreets, it's a LOCAL GEM!!! They have incredible mexican food... the cucumber tacos are out of this world. Great, friendly smiles while there... not too big of a place but anyone and everyone from Idaho Falls knows where to go for the most authentic mexican food.... to Morenita's! LOVE THIS PLACE. Our kids, who are somewhat picky eaters, love the food here also. Hands down the best tasting mexican food in town.
(5)G. W.
Good restaurant. Yelpers got this one right about a good place to go when travelling by on the highway. Good prices, friendly. good selection, They have aquas frescas. But I must confirm what another Yelper mentioned: rather bland food. No sauce on the tacos. No Cilantro. Even their sauces which you can use were bland. I guess being up there in the heart of gringoland, they have left the spices behind.
(4)Matt N.
THE BEST AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD IN THE AREA! Their spicy pork tacos are most definitely on point and super friendly service! I've rarely tried much else other than the tacos, but when I do I'm never disappointed! A MUST TRY if you're in the Idaho Falls area!
(5)The Bird W.
We stoped at this place on our way to Yellowstone. I ordered the taco salad and my son the children's menu. The food is great, price are reasonable and employees very friendly.
(5)Tom H.
Wow. Morenitas is a gem. The tacos rancheros are delicious. Great carne asada and perfect crispy corn tortillas. I eat tacos in California a lot, and Berthas food is as good or better than tacos in LA or Santa Cruz. Eat here often if you can.
(5)Elizabeth A.
I don't know what food the other people ate but I had the chimichanga and my husband had the steak stuff that you put in your own tortillas. Chips and dip were good but hate to pay for it when it's free everywhere else you go. The chimi and steak stuff were very very bland and there was no flavor or seasoning in anything. We were sooooo disappointed. The staff was great and friendly but I hate to say this is authentic. I thought hispanics used seasoning and at the least salt or some sort of flavor. When we left we said we should have went to Taco Bell :(. I would skip it.
(1)Marsha L.
Morenita's is awesome! The corn tortillas are made when you order. Delicious! The pork tamales were delicious as was the tongue tacos and crispy t
(5)Ryan D.
Quite simply some of the best Mexican food I've ever found stateside. We stopped by on a whim from Jackson Hole after running some errands in Idaho Falls and have returned every time through town since. Tacos al pastor and ceviche to die for. Just finished my first Super burrito al pastor- also amazing and finished on the grill. For the quality of the food and the quantity, Morenitas is also improbably cheap. We rarely walk out of there-beer included-having spent more than $20 for two of us. Five stars!
(5)Josh H.
I get the pizope with spicy pork almost every time. The breakfast burritos are the bomb as well the stacked enchiladas and flan. I've even had the tres leches and that is amazing. What ever you order here you won't be disappointed
(5)Jennifer P.
Sooo sooo good. Like many other reviewers, we were driving from Yellowstone to Utah and the craving for Mexican food hit. I prayed to the taco gods, and Yelp pointed me to this little gem. I had low expectations for Mexican food in Idaho but boy was I wrong! Morenita's is as authentic as they come. Perfectly made tamales and enchiladas. If I could pick up this place and put it in Phoenix I would. The homemade spices are fantastic- the habanero one had the right amount of kick. Morenita's is located in an industrial area and a bit hard to find, but not too far off the highway.
(5)Jenny R.
We found this restaraunt on the reviews on Yelp. I'm so glad we did it is the best Mexican food restaurant I've been to in a very long time. My only comment is that it was soooooo busy on a Sunday around 11:00 am that trying I had lots of time to determine my order at the window. A good thing!
(5)Amy L.
Friendly staff. Good food. Not much by way of ambience but a nice meal. Order your chips and salsa separate if you want them. The don't come with dinner automatically. I recommend it more for lunch or takeout.
(3)Robert C.
Fantastic AUTHENTIC Mexican food. Small restaurant. Big on taste! Wife loves the flan dessert & carnitas as main dish I love the flavor of all the food, love the menudo on weekends!!
(5)Tedi R.
We were traveling from Milwaukee to Sacramento via Yellowstone Stopping for the evening in Idaho Falls. We checked out Yelp and found Morenita's. We are so pleased. The little place is clean and quaint. Morenita;s has a walk up counter where you place your order. Grab a seat and wait for your number It only takes minutes. My Hubby had the Smothered Burrito I had the Veggie Tostada and a Chicken Taco. Everything was Excellent. We tried all the different sauces We were very happy with our choices. Its like others have said Morenita's is authentic quality food. Morenita's just needs to get more reviews to let everyone know that they are a real meal and a good value. Wish I could say more but I just want to thank Morenita's for a WONDERFUL meal. THANK YOU From your friends visiting from Sacramento.

What a hidden gem! We were passing through town on our way from Utah to Yellowstone when I found this place on Yelp. Influenced by a recent great review, we stopped in for dinner. It's on a little side street that doesn't have much else in the way of commercial businesses, so we literally never would have just stumbled across it. The place embodies everything I love about Yelp - a great little restaurant that looks like a bit of a hole in the wall, frankly, with amazing, fresh, authentic Mexican food that I never in a million years would have managed to discover on my own while traveling. We found the staff to be really friendly and helpful. The food was fresh and delicious. The tacos were fantastic - and cheap! We drive this route a lot, and I think I know where we're stopping for dinner now. Why eat chain fast food when we can grab such delicious Mexican food for a similar price?
(5)JP C.
Out of the way little dive Mexican establishment that is more than worth your time and your money. Excellent food and great people and service. This place is a little out of the way and isn't in a very-heavily trafficked part of town, but man, it is totally worth visiting! I have family in Idaho Falls, and whenever I'm in town, I make sure that I go to Morenita's at least once or twice. This is one of my favorite little Mexican places, not just in Idaho Falls, but in general. The food is always solid, it's affordable, and the people are super nice. As far as the food goes, I've had a little bit of everything. Their breakfast burritos are at the top of my list. I've had the breakfast burrito with chorizo, and it comes out hot, fresh, and delicious. Every other burrito I've had is quite delicious as well, and they're all substantial. That said, I tend to get a burrito and a couple of tacos when I'm hungry. Their tacos are good as well. My family has had Morenita's cater events a few times, and they always do a great job. Their carnitas in particular are fantastic! Their salsas, especially the salsa frita, are excellent--tasty and spicy. And again, the people are wonderful! There are a few items on their menu that are a bit unique to Morenita's that I have yet to try but that sound intriguing. One of those items is the pizope, which was described to me as some hybrid of a pizza and a sope. Interesting. I'll try it in the future.

Morenita's is a great, quick Mexican food restaurant. Going in I wasn't expecting much, the options in Idaho Falls have certainly seemed limited in the past, but with such a high rating here I was expecting some good food. I ordered a horchata, the enchiladas mechuocan (no idea how to spell this), and whatever my girlfriend wanted. Then I noticed the sauce line up. They have 5 different sauces you can take to your table, ranging from a mild green salsa to XXX habanero salsa. A chipotle ranch as well as a standard red salsa (rated X). Since I love sauce more than anything I took the entire collection over to the table. Then we waited a bit, got our food, and began the journey of eating it. It was a lot of food. I went with carne asada in my enchiladas. It was good, but honestly could have been better. I tasted some of a friends chicken and was blown away though...I really wish I had gone with chicken! The enchiladas really were good though, especially with all the different sauces on it. The horchata was pretty good as well... A friend ordered the kids quesadilla and it was huge. Probably more food than my enchiladas. We weren't sure if they had somehow mistaken us and accidentally given us a normal quesadilla, but it was huge. Good food, especially for Idaho Falls, try it out!

I was getting an oil change around the corner and came upon this gem. Delicious taco rancheros!
(4)Ron D.
If I lived here, they would know me by my first name! This is exactly the kind of place that I use yelp to find when I'm traveling. I had the tacos rancheros lomo! And I can honestly say they were the best tacos I've ever had...ever...for real! They make there tortillas, the ingredients were fresh and prepared to order. Several sauces to choose from, just delicious! Idaho Falls...didn't expect it...but wow. If you are traveling thru do not pass up this hole in the wall!!!
(5)Robert G.
What's great place! We came in for a quick dinner and even though this is a low key place where you order at the counter, we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The staff was courteous and the food prompt. We were there when someone blew up about waiting too long and my advice to the staff is to just refund the money next time, but the complaint was taken too far. I would recommend this place and if we are in town again, we will be back.
(5)Melanie P.
This place is a little hole in the wall and it looks closed when it is open. It is well worth the drive for real tasty Mexican food and fresh ingredients, too. I had a steak quesadilla and it is the best I have ever had!
(5)Stephanie C.
A safe bet in Idaho Falls. Tostada and tacos (lengua) were everything you want out of your typical Mexican meal. Horchata was great. Lots of locals and tourists too. Tortillas seemed hand made and were delicious and their selection of hot sauces is great.
(4)Miguel L.
THE BEST Mexican food in town! Authentic, affordable, and great customer service. Won't be going anywhere else, I'm now a loyal customer.
(5)Melody V.
Traveling thru and used yelp. Wow..We're from Tucson, AZ and we're pleasantly surprised by the great homemade beans and taco salad..in an industrial area and packed!!! Nice
(5)Todd V.
This is a small and delicious place off the main drag. You order at the counter and wait for your number to be called. The menu has a great selection and you pick from 7-8 different meat options. There are also several types of salsa to add when your order is up. Our favorite of what we tried were the tacos rancheros with adoboba. The service was fast and simple. The food was great.
(5)Neha A.
Extremely fresh and delicious food. Had vegetarian food (super burrito and super quesadilla) and enjoyed it totally!
(5)Vanessa S.
Not sure why all the hype about this place. Be sure you ask about the food before you order. You may not get what you expect. I ordered a chicken "quesadilla" and was surprised when I got chicken, lettuce, tomato, onion, cilantro and very sparse cheese on a folded tortilla. (Isn't the 'quesa' supposed to mean cheese? The main headliner of the show should be its namesake) Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I would have asked and had been more specific with what I wanted. The "chips and salsa" was actually chips with a bean dip with absolutely no flavor. Who puts lettuce in a quesadilla?! And serves chips without salsa? Maybe that's the norm in Idaho...in that case, sorry my review is somewhat unjust. Kid's burritos were supposed to come with beans and rice according to the menu, but they didn't. (Maybe I was charged less though. Not sure) Food was all bland, but then again maybe Mexican food in Cali is just different. Service was friendly, but slow. Took quite awhile to take each person's order. Place was clean.
(2)Jesse F.
I'm not the type to usually write reviews but this place deserves it. I'm traveling through ID Falls from Seattle and when I let the server know I had never been to the restaurant before he immediately started asking me targeted questions to find out exactly what I would like best. They have more types of meat than any mexican restaurant I've ever heard of (5 varieties of pork) and the sauces to go with. I had the Loma meat platter, pork loin cooked and then grilled in enchilada sauce. Melt in your mouth amazing! And the tortillas are fresh out of the oven and also melt in your mouth. This place is a gem in the middle of nowhere idaho. Very authentic!
(5)Gerrit G.
Try not to get overwhelmed with all the new Mexican restaurants in town. There is only one that delivers a true authentic experience. Morenita's is probably the best Mexican food I have ever had. I lived in Southern California for 20+ years and none of the places pleased my palate more than Morenita's. This is a restaurant where they put their heart and soul into the food. You can see it with the presentation and with the flavor of the food. Their corn tortillas are so tender and melt in your mouth. i highly recommend the Chile Relleno dish. It is amazing. I also get the super nachos, these things are huge and covered in so much meat and cheese and sauces and guacamole. I am a big guy and I get full on these things. I also love the chips and salsa. There salsa is a bean and salsa combo that is super addicting. They also have Jarritos drinks, horchatta and many different Mexican variety beers. If you prefer soda they have all you drink soda. The service is truly friendly, they always make sure you are enjoying your food. On some weekdays during lunch time almost the entire Idaho Falls Police department eats there. You know its good when you see 15+ cop cars eating here. This place always has a good amount of people there. If you want some Mexican candy to take home or need some authentic ingredients, take a walk to the other door of the building to enter there little convenient store. This place is loaded with stuff. If you want some authentic Mexican food give Morenita's a try. There are many other Mexican restaurants in town but none of them deliver the authenticity that Morenita's does. I know once you give this place a shot, you too will agree.
(5)Dan H.
Great place! Friendly people. Food was great and fast. Reasonably priced too. Get the guacamole salsa and chips. Definitely eat here if you like Mexican food!
(5)Linda L.
Chili relleno was excellent and very authentic. Cheese enchilada equally good. Rice and beans delicious, and shredded beef tacos loaded with meat on homemade tortillas. Very busy, family owned place.
(5)Dan E.
Saw the reviews on yelp and decided to stop by on our way back to Utah. This place is fantastic! Best Mexican I've had for years when I was in Mcallen, Texas! The tacos rancheros are the bomb. I'm not big into chicken with Mexican, but my wife ordered a chimi with chicken and I had to sample it. Whatever they use for a marinade is very, very good. The only con? It's not in Utah and I have to wait until our next trip to Idaho to eat this fantabulous food again.
(5)Anj C.
Amazing food, and really cheap. Easily comparable to great places in San Diego (probably better actually) and much cheaper!
(5)Angie H.
Good authentic Mexican food. Menu is both in English and Spanish. I had the fish and chicken tacos. Pretty good, but the not the best I've had. The rice and beans are the real deal be sure to get a side. My daughter had the breakfast burrito with both meats, that was amazing. The horchetta, was ok. I tasted some artificial cinnamon, but still. Good. They even have the real Coke too. My only complaint would be that they don't wait for the entire order to be complete before calling your number. Instead they call for each item as its completed. Some were done as others got their food. Overall this is a great place to eat!
(4)Christy S.
Thanks to other Yelpers, we stopped here for dinner while driving north on I-15. Living in San Diego, our Mexican food standards are pretty high. Everything was great. We got the tamales, smothered burrito, tacos, and kids quesadilla. Staff were very friendly and service was quick! Would definitely go back. The location is a bit off the track but easy to get to from the freeway.
(5)Lauren C.
Simply wonderful! I drive from jackson to eat here, simply the best Mexican food within 300 miles easily. Delicious, fresh guacamole made to order.. Soft, FRESH, pillowy corn tortillas wrap around your choice of ten different perfectly seasoned meats making up their delicious street tacos. They also have traditional specials daily. Everything cooked as fresh as you can imagine. All of this served up by a fast and friendly crew at a price that leaves everybody hungry for more! If you've been open for 20 years, you must be doing something right. Don't miss this great spot!
(5)Kris B.
Great authentic Mexican food! Fresh homemade corn tortillas! Awesome tacos! Unbelievable salsa and chips!
(5)Jacob C.
If I could give this place 10 stars (out of 5) I would, best authentic Mexican food in Idaho. Why??? Everything; service, cost, food, flavor, taste, satisfaction....my wife had a chicken taco and a pork taco, both fantastic. I had a fish taco and carne asada burrito smothered in red chile sauce. The sauce tastes like it came straight from a chile farm and yes I have had chile sauce straight from a chile farm in southern New Mexico.(side note: best kind of chile sauce) Give it try, worth your hard earned $.
(5)Tovey A.
Tacos rancheros were delicious!! Got chicken but I'm sure any meat is good. Great service. This place spurred me to create a yelp account just so I could post to the review.
(5)Trin N.
Amazing authentic mexican food! A must in Idaho falls.
